If you’re looking for a simple yet delicious way to spice up your kitchen game – this combination is perfect for you! Dill and chives, two popular herbs that each summer lands on our kitchen tables, are so popular that we decided to prepare this double pack, allowing you to restock on both of them at the same time. Dill is a versatile herb, excellent when combined with delicate fish or rich, creamy sauces. On the other hand, they also make a great addition to boiled potatoes, herbal butter or as a vital ingredient of pickling liquid for next time you want to make some pickled cucumbers! Chives on the other hand are great with baked potatoes, cheeses, salads or even savoury pancakes.
Both of them are also great in terms of vitamin supplementation and have high microelement content, making them healthy additions to your everyday meals. On top of that, dill is rich in antioxidants, such as tannins, which helps them to protect your body from effects of ageing or even cancer development, while chives are extremely rich in vitamin K – one that is vital for our proper blood flow and protects from osteoporosis, as it ensures strong bone structure. Both of these herbs are available freeze-dried, which means that no matter what time of year you want to enjoy them, they will be just as fresh and fragrant as ever. Without the loss to their nutritional benefits or quality, this combination of dill and chives will surely enrich your kitchen all year long!
What is freeze-drying process?
Freeze-dried product is dried at reduced pressure so very low temperatures can be used. As a result, the product (e.g. fruit, vegetable or herb) keeps flavour profile and nutrient values very similar to the fresh product. The process also reduces the moisture content almost to zero so freeze-dried fruit works very well in cooking, confectionery, chocolate, fudge, icings, frosting, baked goods and as decorations and snacks.
Why should I choose freeze-dried products?
When using freeze-drying, there is no need to use any chemicals or preservatives, and virtually 100% of biologically valuable substances of products are saved. For example, if drying the usual way the remaining amount of vitamin C is only about 40% when freezing is up to 85%, when freeze-drying – 98%. Another advantage of freeze-drying – the raw material retains its original shape, and the texture becomes specific, crispy and fluffy.
For example, a freeze-dried strawberry is a crispy berry, its size, colour and chemical composition does not change. It is 10 times lighter, however, as there is no water in freeze-dried strawberry while the raw and fresh one usually contains about 90% water. If strawberry is submerged in water it re-hydrates and becomes like fresh unfrozen strawberry. For years freeze-drying was used for space food and pharmaceuticals. But we bring it to people now to discover new, smarter, and fully nutritious food they love <3 And what is important, you can eat it all year round!
